How do you didgeridoo?
This track will get you going on all the basics of this fun instrument, an ancient type of trumpet, first invented and used by the native people in northeast Arnhem Land in Australia's Northern Territory, the Yolŋu. They call the instrument Yidaki.
I'm far from an expert but I'm learning more all the time about the instrument, how to play it, and the culture that created it.
There is a rich tradition of storytelling and song in Arnhem Land, and the didgeridoo is an intimate part of that tradition and culture. Learning an instrument should also honor the culture from which it came. Learn more about Aboriginal Australian culture through the Dust Echoes series of 12 animations. Beautiful stuff, both visually, musically, and fascinating myths!
