don't practice longer, practice smarter
In my own quest as a playing and performing musician, as well as my investigations as a scholar and writer, I know more about practice than just about anything else.
I've learned some things that have radically changed my approach to learning music. I know these secrets and strategies will help you, too. I'd love to share some of that knowledge with you.
I've always been fascinated with learning, and so when it came time to choose a topic for my Ph. D. research, practice fascinated me the most. And here's what was really interesting: ALL of the published research out there (I read 384 studies, maybe a few more) focused only on classical music practice. This is great! It's an amazing body of work. But how jazz, pop, and other musicians practiced was completely ignored. So I decided to begin the long process of finding out what was going on in the practice of those musicians.
